Ingredients:
For the Pudding Layer:
- 2 cups (500 ml) milk
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (30 g) cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For the Apple Layer:
- 3-4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Cake Base:
- 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (120 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line a baking pan (about 9×13 inches or equivalent) with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- Start by preparing the pudding layer. In a saucepan, whisk together the milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In another pan, melt the butter for the apple layer. Add the thinly sliced apples, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Cook over medium heat until the apples are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat.
- For the cake base, in a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the cake base.
- Spread the caramelized apples over the cake base, distributing them evenly.
- Pour the prepared pudding over the apple layer, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is set, and the edges are golden brown.
- Allow the Apfelpudding Schnitten to cool completely in the pan before cutting into slices.
Enjoy your delicious Apfelpudding Schnitten!
